Sustainability Strengths & Catalysts (Pros)

  • Public finance practice that integrates ESG considerations into structuring and marketing of municipal and other public deals, aligning financing with sustainability metrics important to investors as part of its client advisory services.
  • Discloses ESG and sustainability-related information through corporate sustainability and regulatory filings, enabling investors to assess governance and risk management practices across its advisory and capital markets activities.
  • Participation in third‑party ESG assessments and inclusion of ESG factors in client-facing solutions (e.g., sustainable finance products) demonstrates institutional capability to support issuer and investor demand for sustainability-linked transactions.

Material Risks & Governance Concerns (Cons)

  • As an investment bank and underwriter, the firm is exposed to reputational and transition risks from financing fossil‑fuel intensive or environmentally contentious projects, and such exposures may be difficult to monitor and disclose comprehensively.
  • Piper Sandler’s ESG disclosures rely in part on regulatory filings and voluntary reporting, which can lag in granularity and frequency versus peer best practices, limiting transparency on scope 1–3 emissions and financed emissions tied to its deal pipelin
